Hazel and Paul drove me out to the trials event but didn’t hang around because they wanted to have breakfast in Palmerston North with Paul’s dad.
Everyone had to help set the sections out since Kevin had been at a mountauin bike event on Saturday and hadn’t been able to do it.
Earlier in the week Mum and Hazel had accidentially bent my front brake disc, so John Lawton brought a wheel over to put on my bike and took my wheel back to his house to fix it.
It was quite exciting because I rode A Grade for the first time at Manawatu. It wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be but I’ve definitely got a few things to work on. For instance, in section 8, I struggled on some roots that were right after a very tight turn. It was definitely my most frustrating section of the day.
My favourite section was 3. It had a couple of big uphills, one of which was easy. The other one I got a five on but, when I got it, it was really fun.
It was a bit of a disappointing day for Phil Stevenson because he hurt his ankle and didn’t finish the day.
It was a really awesome ride with the only problem being that it was scorching hot.
The heat didn’t bother me too much because, in section two, I had my moment of glory. More importantly, people actually saw it. Usually when I do something really cool (or, at least, something I think is cool) no one else sees it. Well, today, I casually hopped my front wheel to the left, and didn’t put my foot down. AWESOME.
